Singapore Dance Delight vol.02 - The heat up!

Just like Dance Delight vol.01 that was held last year in 2010, it drew crowds of youths to check out local street dancers. I'm glad to have been selected once again to cover the event as a blogger.

The semi-finals have proved itself to be another great hit among youths, So many people crowded the place despite the rain!

The dance floor was moved indoors for the 1st 20 teams, as it was raining heavily, but hey, that didn't stop these dancers even though it was squeezy!

And not to forget, Joyce & The boys, the champions of Singapore Dance Delight Vol.01, represented Singapore in Osaka's Japan Dance Delight vol.17

They had been performing for a long time, from LA Nevada to SBDC!
Defending Champions Joyce and the Boys brings another great showing to SDDVol2

With all things dance gaining feverish popularity, street dance is one activity that never fails to bring youth together. They see dance as a way to find community and to express themselves creatively. Whether they are dancing to the beat or cheering as spectators, they enjoy the pace, the fervour and the adrenaline rush that comes with dance.

Singapore Dance Delight is one of the rare recent events that has galvanized youth from all walks of life to come together in celebration of dance and being young. Singapore Dance Delight Vol. 2 has proven to be bigger & louder with almost double the number of crews competing – 46 teams registered up from last year’s 28! This year’s entries saw strong showings from the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia! Singapore is the only South East Asian country to host Dance Delight. Last year’s competition set the bar really high so this year, expect even greater choreography, tighter routines & more outrageous outfits!

Singapore Dance Delight Vol. 2, is the Singapore edition of Asia’s “fiercest” street dance competition, Dance Delight, Japan. Last year, Singapore inaugurated Singapore Dance Delight to pick its first representative to compete with the world’s best in Osaka, Japan. Singapore Dance Delight Vol. 1 winners Joyce and the Boys found it to be a tremendous honour and awe-inspiring experience to dance with the best in the world.

Singapore Dance Delight Vol. 2 is proudly presented by F&N Sparkling Drinks and produced by O School.

Don't forget to check out my video cover of the semi-finals! I think it's better I do it this way, pictures don't show you how dancers move! Right?

The Eastern Restaurant

Screen shot 2011-02-26 at AM 01.42.08

Photos taken from Mint and Ying Zi respectively.

Two weeks ago I was invited by Dennis for a food tasting session at The Eastern Restaurant down at Centre Point.

I didn't had time to blog, school test, projects, acting in a NAFA film, man....My time was totally packed, and not to mention my big birthday bash. Some of you noticed my two weeks "pause" from blogging.

With thousands of photos for me to edit and upload, I'll take it one step at a time, So here's some of my reviews on some of the food I've noted and had a good impression from The Eastern Restaurant.

Ranging from Custard buns, Fried rice to sticky cakes.

沙流包 Flowing custard bun

Don't be fooled by it's first innocent looks, it's stuffed with amazingly delicious salted egg yolks made into custard.

It's pretty fascinating, how they hand made the buns, looking at the textures and design of the bun, it isn't easy to swallow, think about how much hard work has been put into this before it's served.

Though it was the last dish that was served as dessert, I just can't help but to mention it first, it's just my favorite overall.

Next up! 扬州抄饭 (Yang Zhou Fried Rice)
5436223438_cd313000e1

According to Wikipedia, the ingredients for "Yang Zhou" fried rice are

hot cooked rice (preferably day old because freshly cooked rice is too sticky)
barbecued pork / 'cha siu' (叉烧)
cooked shrimp
scallions, chopped, including green ends
eggs yolks
peas
carrots

Well, I'm chinese, I can't missed out on fried rice, even Peter Chao loves fried rice(His girlfriend making it.) They made the fried rice good, in our language, fried rice can only be either good or bad. This is good, I mean good. Yeah, Good. No way I can describe when there's so many ingredients.

上海抄年糕 (Fried Shanghai Rice Cake)
DSC05611

Something I noted from this dish, it's actually sticky cake(Nian gao), but the way they prepared it, it tasted pretty much like Hor Fun "noodles", instead it isn't thin like Hor Fun, it's thick and chewy, puts yours mouth to work, and with whatever sauces they've put into it, I believe it's oyster sauce?

Overall, this dish stands out a lot to me, making sticky cake feel like chewy-noodles-like , awesome!

But anyways, there was just too many dishes for me to choose from, in fact, many foreigners also think that chinese have lots of good food, there was just not enough space in my tummy to try out the entire menu!

Here's a documentary film by Director Jacky. Chinese in Foreigner's eyes.

Project IAMNOTFAT

This is my current school project I'm doing with my team, Basically on cycling and eating great food from corners of Singapore.

Sometimes we're just can't be bother to take public transport down to great places like, East Coast Lagoon, Katong for a bowl of Laksa, Jalan Kayu for some Prata.

So we're trying something reasonably new, cycling to eat, being a good exercise, and helps you get around places easily, cycling to eating seems like a great idea.

DSC05564

As seen in the video, We've cycled, all the way to Lagoon hawker at east coast park to just enjoy some simple seafood. Some of them rented bikes, while I cycled all the way from Hougang.

DSC05562

Some cockles, cheap and awesome, but don't forget to get a jab for hepatitis B first.
DSC05566

MMMmmmmm, for seafood lovers.
DSC05579

Sharing some food among ourselves, oyster omelet, Fried Prawn Noodles, cockles and Sugar cane drinks.
DSC05570

It isn't just about the food, but about the atmosphere, Eating seafood by the seaside, with windy ocean breeze.
DSC05582

Basically our point of this project, is to prove that we can get to places to eat delicious food from all corners of Singapore, not only does it satisfy our stomach, but also provides us with some exercise.

It's not difficult to cycle at all, it's pretty free and easy, especially when you know food places well, or you can refer to great food blogs such as Calvin's food blog and IeatIshootIpost, and use Gothere.sg for cycling directions around(Use car route and avoid ERPs and expressway.)
