My first 18 days of BMT

*Disclaimer*
Since no cameras are allowed in all military camps in Singapore, I'll be using screenshots from this video and other interweb sources to illustrate what I've gone through my first 18days of Basic Military Training with the Singapore Armed forces, I own none of the following contents.....

Content sources: CyberPioneer video "Every Singaporean Son", EDMW forums.

Abstract off the Wikipedia page for "Every Singaporean Son"

Every Singaporean Son is a Singaporean documentary released in 2010. It serves as an education tool for all pre-enlistees during their Basic Military Training in Singapore. Most of the episodes were filmed at Pulau Tekong. 18 episodes were released. The first episode airs on 7 July 2010 on Youtube, subsequent episodes were released on every Tuesday, each clip lasted for 6 to 8 minutes.

On the ferry towards Pulau Tekong, an "isolated" island off the shores of Singapore catered for military trainings in Singapore. Upon embarkation of the ferry, all enlistees were ordered to tuck in shirts and remove caps.

After disembarkation of the ferries, all enlistees are gathered for a short briefing, I'm glad I enlisted along with a few ex-schoolmates that I know, so I wasn't really lonely at that point of time.

This was pretty much how everyone looked, confused and low on morales. With everyone being clueless about everything, at the time it was hard to spot the blur sotongs.

Coincidentally(or not), I was enlisted into the same company as these guys in the video, Orion Company of BMTC School 2, so whatever that you saw in the episodes of Every Singaporean Son, is pretty much what I'm seeing as well.

Everyone then falls in the parade square, getting one final look from friends and relatives.

Just look at all the sad faces.....

At the haircut sessions, most people would be giving an emo expression.

And always I believe, there will always be one joker smiling away.

The first night involved a lot of unpacking from the "goodie bags" issued, containing over 80 items, better than the typical NDP goodie bags hor.

How my bunk looks like, oh yes, we're required to arrange dozens of items into the cabinets according to the standards.

the daily and nightly parades.

The bunks of Orion company, the red arrow indicates which bed I'm sleeping at, window bed leh! Best ventilation! While my buddy Joseph sleeps above me, I guess the officers were afraid if the upper bed sinks down and crushes my buddy....

One of my favorite activities, firing a SAR21 tactical rifle.

I managed to spot the exact rifle my buddy uses, number 48 SAR21 of Orion company, while I used number 47. The daylight firings were pretty easy, I believe I scored either 15/16 or 16/16 if my memory is still working fine.

However at the night shoots, due to my poor night vision and slight night-blindness, I missed most of my shots at night, and there my chance of becoming the company's best shot was withdrawn, disappointed I was.

Also, my bunk is only metres away from Pegasus Company, where female recruits train, so I'm not really stuck with seeing men every single day.

Thanks to IZreloaded, here's a link to all photos of the graduated female recruits from Mindef site.

They go through the same trainings as every other men inside, don't mess with them hor, they are combat-effective.

Girls of BMT

BMT can be tiring, exhausting, it also can be mentally and emotionally stressful not being able to surf 9Gag or see your families throughout the confinement periods, you'll find it very rewarding and fruitful at the end of the day.

Every Singaporean males have to go through with it, it's up to you whether if you wanna take it positively or negatively, initially I was negative of course, my perception of National Service was pretty much changed after my confinement period.

I got to meet all sorts of people, from ah beng ah sengs to graduates that specialize in the finance markets, BMT is probably a dream-come-true for people interested in Marketing fields in the future.

There is only 1 thing I hate about Tekong, the food doesn't seem to have enough fibre, I used to take a dump about 4 to 5 times a day, and in Tekong I only took a dump once every other day!
